Read John 14:15 -17 & 26
The Holy Spirit and Holy Ghost are exactly and
precisely mean the same thing .
What is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is not matter.
Matter has material substances and as such it possess size, weight, color, dimension. It can be measured, weighed and has an extension in space but
the Holy Spirit is not material,
He does not have an extension in space, dimension, form , cannot be measured ,
has no color or size.
One feature of the spirits is they can penetrate matter or any substances. Our spirit penetrates our body without hurting
us and dwells in there. When Jesus resurrected, He was no more a mere matter; He
went into a room despite the door was locked in John 20:26 .He could not have
done that before His death , but He did
it after His death.
Spirit can penetrate a personality. A personality
can penetrate another personality. The Holy Spirit can penetrate personality. 1
Corinthian 2:11 says for what man knows the things of man except the spirit of
the man is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of
God. The Spirit of God can penetrate the Spirit of Man.
The Holy Spirit is not enthusiasm. Some have got
enthusiasm and we imagine it is the Holy Spirit. We have seen people who get
worked up over a song and we think it is the Holy Spirit , not necessarily
because some of this people go outside and live like the world (drink alcohol
and fornicate). The Holy Spirit will never enter a man and let him live like
the world, you can be sure of that. That is why most of them do not want to be
filled with the Holy Spirit. They want to live their life the way they want it
and want the Holy Spirit as an addition or extra. The Holy Spirit will not be
an addition, He must be Lord or He won’t come at all.
The Holy Spirit is a Person. He is not energy,
enthusiasm, courage. He is not the personification of good qualities. He is a
person and has all the qualities of a person. He has will,
He has intelligence, He has feeling,
He has knowledge, and Similarly He has the ability to love, see, think,
hear, desire,
grieve and rejoice. Jesus said I will send Him unto you another
comforter, I will not leave
you comfortless but He will come and when He is come He will take the
things of Mine and show them unto you. The Holy Spirit is here now but
Jesus in His body
is at the right hand side of God interceding day and night, Romans 8:34.
He will
be there until He comes again but He said I will send another comforter,
the
Holy Ghost, He will be my representative and HE will be all that I am.
The Holy Spirit has memory, He can be grieved, He can be hurt, and
He has individuality. He is not substance but a Spirit.
Who is the Holy Spirit? Holy Spirit is God. The
scripture gives the Holy Spirit the attributes that belong to God for example Psalm
139:7 says where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your
presence? That is Omnipresence, not even the devil can claim omnipresence. Only
God can claim omnipresence and the Psalmist attributed Omnipresence to the Holy
Spirit. In Job, the Holy Spirit is
given the power to create, Job 26:13 says By His Spirit He adorned the
heavens; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
Job 33:4 says the Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of
the
Almighty gives me life. The breath of the almighty also know has the
Holy Spirit . In this verse the Holy Spirit is said to be the
creator, He issues command and only God can do that.
Matthew 28:19 says baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. I want to ask how it will sound if I say I
baptize you in the name of God the Father, and of the Son and of Mary or St
Paul. Will that not be a horrible thing? We cannot attribute deity to St Paul
or Mary .Or if I say the grace of the Father, the Son and the communion of
Angel Michael, you will surely shout heresy! It will be a horrible thing to
introduce angel Michael In the place of Holy Spirit, so the Holy Spirit is God.
The Holy Spirit is present here,-a knowing,
feeling personality. He knows our response; He knows how we think, He knows
what we are going to say, He is present here. Jesus said in John 14:16 that I
will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper that He may abide
with your forever. The Holy Spirit is abiding with us now. We cannot see Him
but we know He is here. He comes from God the Father and Son. He is all God,
and exercise all rights of God and He merits all worship and love and
obedience too.
The Holy
Spirit is exactly like Jesus, Romans 8:34 says He will be all that I am. Jesus
is exactly like God; Jesus says in John 14: 9 , He who has seen me has seen
the Father. What does the Holy Spirit
think of babies, well what did Jesus think of babies? Well He thought of babies just like the
Father did. The Father must think wonderfully well of babies because the Son
took the babies in His arms and put His hands on the little boys head and say
God bless you , Matthew 19:14-15 . What
does the Spirit think of sick people? What did Jesus think of sick people? What
does the Spirit think of sinful people?
What did Jesus think of the woman that was caught in adultery was
dragged to
Him – John 8:1-11?The Holy Spirit sees things as Jesus sees things.
Jesus sees things as the Father sees thing . Therefore the Holy Spirit
sees things as the Father sees things.
The Spirit feels exactly the same way Jesus feels
about everything. He is the Spirit of Jesus, He acts exactly the same way Jesus
acts. Jesus was so magnetic that everyone came to him. Jesus was the most
loving, most kind, most tender and all while He was on the earth. Jesus was
demonstrating the Spirit and that is the why the Holy Spirit is, most loving,
most kind, most tender and so on . I want you to think of the Holy Spirit as cultured,
kind, gentle, gracious, loving just like our Lord Jesus himself.
The Holy Spirit is
friendly;
because He is friendly, He can be grieved; we can grieve Him by doubting
Him,
ignoring Him or refusing to obey Him, by turning our backs on Him. Love
must be present to grief. He can be grieved because He loves. For
example imagine a man has a 17 year old who joined a gang. This man was
called
down to the station and when he got there he saw his son with other boys
in
hand cuffs. The man feels sorry for the boys but grieves for his son. A
mother
grieves for her child because she loves her . If you do not love you
cannot
grieve and that is why Ephesians 4:30 says grieve not the Holy Spirit in
other
words the Holy Spirit loves us so such that when we ignore Him or do not
trust
Him He is grieved.
He can be pleased. We can please Him by obeying Him
and He responds just like a pleased father responds or a pleased mother respond.
He responds when He is pleased. The Holy Spirit can leave a church, a man, a
woman when He is grieved.
The Holy Spirit is not a Prophet. He is a
Spirit and the Prophet was a man. He is not angel , Acts 7:55 says but he (Stephen)
being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and
Jesus standing at the right hand of God. Stephen was not filled with an angel
but the Holy Spirit. He is not angel Gabriel or Michael.
We
need the Holy Spirit .Zechariah
4:6 says it’s not by power or might but by My Spirit says the Lord. The
Holy
Spirit makes the impossible to become possible. In Luke 1:34-35, Mary
asked the
angel how a virgin could become pregnant without knowing a man and the
angel replied,
through the Holy Spirit. Through the Holy Spirit the impossible can
become possible . In 1 Samuel 16:11-13, with the help of the the Holy
Spirit David went from a shepherd boy to become the King of Israel. After he was anointed the Spirit of God came down on him and from that day his lot change.
The Holy Spirit can also help a man to excel
above his pairs. Although Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael , and Azariah were ten
times better than magicians and astrologers-Daniel 1:19 , Daniel excelled amongst
the four because of the Holy Spirit. Daniel 6:3 says an excellent spirit was
found in Daniel.
The Holy Spirit can also give strength and power.
The Spirit of God came down on Samson and He tore a lion into two, Judges 14:6-5.
Jesus achieved so much in such a little time. What is the secret behind Jesus
success - the Holy Spirit? Acts 10:38 says how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth
with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all
who were oppressed by the devil ,for God was with Him.
How do I receive the Holy Spirit? We receive the Holy Spirit by giving our
lives to Christ. We receive Him at the moment of Salvation. 1 Corinthians 12:13 says for by one Spirit we
were all baptized into one body-whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free
and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. Romans 8:9 says but you are
not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the spirit of God dwells in you. Now
if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he is not His. Ephesians 1:13 -14
teaches us that the Holy Spirit is the seal of salvation for all those who
believe: “Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised
Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption
of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory.”
We receive the Holy Spirit at salvation in a measure.
After we have received the Holy Ghost, we can now be filled with the Holy
Spirit. The speaking in tongues, gift of working of miracles, gifts of prophecy
,gifts of discerning of spirits are all manifestation of the Spirit , 1 Corinthians
12:5-11 .
This is how to be filled with the Holy Spirit
1 – To present your vessel (body) as living sacrifices,
Romans 12:1-2.Only a presented vessel will be filled. We need to present our
personality as a living sacrifice.
2-Ask for it, Luke 11:9-13
3-Obedience, Acts 5:32. There must be obedience to
the word of God. The spirit of God will not give a disobedient child His blessings.
4- Faith, Galatians 3:2. You don’t get filled by
law keeping but through faith.
No one will receive the Holy Spirit without giving
their lives to Christ. You want the impossible to become possible you need the
Holy Ghost, you want to rise above your pairs you need the Holy Ghost. You want
success you need the Holy Ghost.
The bible says in Romans 3 v 23 that for all have
sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 6 s 23 says for the wages of
sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. The
gift was explained in John 3 v 16 , For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have
everlasting life. What shall we do to be saved? The bible says in Romans 10vs 9
that if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10 v 10 – For it
is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with our mouth
that you confess and are saved.
